ICSHS NEEDS YOUR HELP

Sometimes in 2011, I taught in one of the tutorial centers somewhere in Egan. After my class, I decided to have a conversation with some students. During the conversation, I discovered that they were students of Igando Community Senior High School. This knowledge got me interested in these teenage girls. I asked about their school. They began to paint Our school in a bad light. They called the school so many unprintable names. While they were talking, I kept quiet. Just listening to them. They said students always fail in that school. When they were done talking, I asked if the girls knew each other very well. They said yes. Then I asked the girls, one after the other this question, "If you set questions for your friend, do you think she will pass." The first girl said no with emphasis. The second girl was sarcastic in her response. She said, "eleyi o ni pass. Oko lo ma ndo kiri". We laughed over her response. Afterwards, I then ask them, "Do you think you guys will pass WAEC if you are to write it now". They were quiet. I asked them again, they said no remorsefully. Then I told them, why then do you blame your school for your failure? They kept quiet. I told them to read their books and be more focused and they would excel in their examinations. I told them that I finished at the same school. They did not believe me until I began to mention all the teachers in the school. They were shocked. I told them that some persons made all their papers in that school without having to go to any tutorial center. They marveled and thanked me. They walked away, looking back to peer at me occasionally until they vanished into thin air.

Some of us were like these ladies back then. We left the school when waec was fast approaching because of the rumors that we were fed but we found out that we would have made our papers if we had stayed in our school. If we have the opportunity, we should help to sensitize the present students who may be contemplating leaving the school because of this false narration.

I'm happy that we are here. I will want us to help our beloved school to restore her glory. Once again, IGANDO COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL NEEDS YOUR HELP.
